Good Photo’s from the Lake Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention 2012
I was able to purchase some high quality photo’s of Alice Gale during the Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention. On the water photo’s taken by IdeaFilmFactory

Full reef on the main due to gusting winds. Interesting day with winds variable from 5 with gust to 35.
Hull repair from Lake Havasu damage
Alice Gale was damaged during the Lake Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention. Here are some photo’s of the damage and repair so far.

As you can see from the photo’s the damage was limited to three of the hull boards between two frames. The damage is mostly cosmetic as my frame bulkheads, sheer strake, rubbing strakes, and gunwale where not damaged. I was able to salvage all but a small center section of the existing boards so the repair has been straight forward. By removing enough of the splintered center section from each board I was able to press the boards back. Structural epoxy filler and wood blanks allowed me to fill the cut seam. I used fairing epoxy to rebuild the hull shape. I have enough paint primer and LPU paint left from the original build to finish the repair.
I have more work to do, but wanted to go sailing so I put on two brushed coats of hull paint to gauge where I was and get back on the water. I see I still have another round of sanding and minor filling to do before using my Earlex HVLP Spray Station to respray the desired semi-gloss sheen of the boat.
I still have work to do on the interior as well but overall I am happy to have Alice Gale patched up and ready to sail.
Lake Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention and a Hole in Alice Gale
We had a great time attending the Lake Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention. Even a boating incident that got Alice Gale holed at the start of the first days race did not curb our enthusiasm for this event. The hole in Alice Gale was done accidentally on the start of the Long Distance Race. I was on starboard tack and a great looking Goat Island Skiff was on port tack. We failed to adequately communicate and our boats converged with the bow of the GIS punching a hole in my port side. It looks horrible but I have already started the repair, and will have no problem getting Alice Gale back to normal.
I was mad for 15 minutes, but got over it as the sailing was just fantastic.
We couldn’t stay for the entire week, so we only attended the first three days. Here are a few pictures we got of the event.
